Week ending

What we have been learning about

14/2/25 This week in Year 4 we have wrapped up our topic of Ancient Greece by making Greek Salads! We have also been researching gods and goddesses and creating our very own. In Maths we have wrapped up our unit on Perimeter and are beginning to learn about fractions. For safer internet week we created a class story based on little red riding hood about a girl that gets her personal information stolen by someone who is pretending to be her grandma. Mrs. Castillo and I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy half term and are looking forward to seeing everyone after the break!
7/2/25 Year four have had a fantastic Maths week! We have made the maths game 'I have who has?' and absolutely rocked the NSPCC rocks TTRS competition. In history, we learnt about the origins of democracy and had a debate and a vote about whether we would want to live in Athens or Sparta- Sparta won by a landslide. We have also been writing newspaper reports telling the story of the fall of Icarus.
31/01/25 This week in Year 4 was Greek Week! On Tuesday we all donned our best togas and laurels and were able to examine real historical artefacts and play the same games real ancient Greek children would have played thanks to Ms. Dove from the Chertsey Museum! In English we wrote reviews of our experiences, highlighting the best parts of the visit. We are continuing to learn about different Greek myths and this week's focus was on Prometheus and his quest to bring fire to the regular people. In science, we finally got to see what happened to our eggs. We decided that while water is best for our teeth, orange juice and other sugary drinks are definitely the worst!
24/01/25 This week in Year 4 we are learning the story of Pandora's box and wrote some introspective diary entries from the perspective of Pandora herself. In the lead up to Greek day on Tuesday we learnt about the cities of Athens and Sparta, asking ourselves the question: which city would you rather live in? In maths we tackled division and in Science we used eggs to set up our experiment to show which drink is the worst for our teeth. Stay tuned next week for the results!

17/01/25

We have had a wonderful week in year 4! This week we continued to learn about Ancient Greece and began to write setting descriptions of the labyrinth from the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. We have also mastered multiplying 1 digit by 2 and even 3 digit numbers. In History, we examined real Ancient Greek artefacts and wondered what they might tell us about life in Ancient Greece, and in Science we learnt the proper names for all of our teeth!

10/01/25

Year 4 has had an amazing first week back at school. We have started our new class topic: Ancient Greece. We are reading poetry based on Ancient Greek myths and legends in our class text Falling Out of the Sky: Poems about Myths and Monsters.
