Year 4 have been working hard on writing their own poetry this week, focussing on The Iron Man and including features such as similes and metaphors. We started a new topic in maths, looking at the area of a shape and the children have made great progress with this new concept! We continued to develop our knowledge in football by looking at attacking and defending during games! |

It has been an exciting week in Year 4 as Miss Irving and the children have settled into the autumn term. We have been practising our addition and subtraction in maths, before we start our new topic next week. We also wrote some fantastic stories about a haunted house, in which we described the terrifying setting and mysterious events. Alongside maths and English, we have completed lots of creative tasks! |

Wow, what an exciting half-term Year 4 has had! In Maths, we've mastered addition and subtraction, and even unlocked the power of inverse operations to double-check our work like pros. Over in English, we've been busy crafting persuasive letters and writing diary entries full of imagination. We also had a a wonderful time celebrating Black History Month, where we discovered inspiring writers and trailblazers who have made incredible achievements. We're excited to dive into the next half-term, full of new adventures in learning! It’s been such a pleasure teaching Year 4 this term, and after all our hard work, we all truly deserve a well-earned break! |

We've had an exciting and productive week in class. We have been working hard, especially in Maths, where we've been practising column addition and subtraction with regrouping. We are becoming more confident with each lesson! In English, we've been learning about prefixes and exploring how they change the meanings of words—a great way to build vocabulary skills. In Geography, we continued our exploration of the world's biomes, learning about the unique characteristics of each. And, of course, we’ve had lots of fun during our music lessons, where creativity always takes centre stage! |

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Bedfont Lakes for an engaging visit. The interactive workshop provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about various fascinating animals, including Larry and Garry, the giant African land snails, Mabel the tortoise, Tinsel the Australian bearded dragon, and Tricky the corn snake. The experience was both enjoyable and educational. In Mathematics, we have begun our study of addition and subtraction involving four-digit numbers, while in writing, we are exploring the first-person narrative. Each week, our students are making significant progress and gaining confidence in their abilities. |

This week was packed with exciting learning experiences! In Maths, we focused on rounding off numbers in the hundreds and thousands, helping the children enhance their numerical skills. Our POR text (Mouse Bird Snake Wolf) has become even more engaging, allowing students to deepen their vocabulary and improve their retrieval skills. In Music, we had a fantastic time listening to and learning the lyrics of "Mamma Mia" while playing instruments. You can never go wrong with ABBA! In Geography, we expanded our understanding of different biomes and explored their unique characteristics.It’s been a wonderful week, full of exploration and discovery! |

Year 4 has had an incredibly busy and productive week! We've been practising our writing skills, focusing on organising information into paragraphs using fronted adverbial phrases. In Maths, we've delved deep into comparing and ordering four-digit numbers. Music has been a blast as we’ve been learning our new song, "Mamma Mia" by ABBA. I’m sure week 5 will be even busier, filled with even more exciting learning! |

This week, we have been enthusiastically diving into our Power of Reading text, Mouse Bird Snake Wolf. We’ve worked on retrieving key information from the story and expanding our vocabulary. In Science, the children found learning about living and non-living things fascinating, and in Geography, we’ve started exploring "Biomes". French was a highlight as we introduced the names of different body parts. During PSHE, we discussed what makes a great team and created personalised handprint decorations. I’m confident next week will be even more exciting with lots more to do and discuss. |

This week has been both busy and productive for the Year 4's. In Maths, we’ve been practising counting in thousands and delving into the values of larger numbers. In English, we've begun our Power of Reading book, Mouse Bird Snake Wolf, which is brimming with imagination and wonder. We’ve also started learning how to organise our sentences into paragraphs, a skill that, although challenging, will greatly enhance our writing. In Art, we were introduced to Anni Albers, a pioneering textile artist of the 20th century known for her innovative weaving techniques. Week 3 promises even more exciting and engaging learning experiences each day! |

What a wonderful start we have had to Year 4. The children have been very excitable and enthusiastic to be back at school. We have had fun getting to know each other and also worked hard on classroom routines. In Maths, we did revision of our tables and had fun learning a new song to remember the three timetables. In English, we really enjoyed writing a Time Capsule letter to our future selves about our goals for the year and what we would like to learn by the end of the year. It was an awesome first week, and we are all really excited about the rest of the year and having fun while learning. |
